True, he was kinda creepy and objectifying. But part of the point of that episode was that nothing was cool anymore and everyone was badly, badly broken. I don’t think Edlund was making a case that Cas was supposed to be that way or that it was in any way a good thing.
He also wrote On the Head of a Pin, Abandon All Hope, My Bloody Valentine, and The Man Who Would Be King, among others. I trust him to do something awesome with this episode, even if parts of it are creepy, sad or not what we expected/were hoping for.
